How to restore a WordPress installation in Plesk

WordPress Toolkit is a management interface that allows you to install, configure, and manage WordPress in Plesk easily. In this article, we’ll show you how to restore a WordPress installation in Plesk. Start out by accessing your Plesk control panel through your HostPapa Dashboard

Please note that WordPress Toolkit can install, configure, and manage WordPress version 4.9 and later, and the extension is free with the Web Pro and Web Host Plesk editions. It’s available for a fee for the Web Admin edition.

How to restore a WordPress installation

When you update the WordPress core or copy data from one WordPress installation to another, WordPress Toolkit suggests creating a restore point to revert the changes and restore your installation to the state it was in before the operation.

Note: WordPress Toolkit suggests that you only create a restore point when updating a single WordPress installation.

How to make full restore points

By default, a restore point will only contain the data affected when copying data or updating, but the Plesk administrator can set up WordPress to include all of the target installation data (both files and the database) in the restore point. Full restore points provide the highest chances of a successful recovery, but they take longer to create and take up more disk space than regular restore points.

To restore a WordPress installation from a restore point, follow these steps:

  1. Go to WordPress.

  2. Find the card of the installation you want to restore.
  3. Click on the circle icon next to Restore Point.

The restoration will begin, and your installation will be restored to its state before the operation. The restore point takes up disk space included in your allowed disk space quota. After you’ve restored your WordPress installation or determined that there’s no need to restore, you can delete the restore point.

To delete a restore point, follow these steps:

  1. Go to WordPress.
  2. Click the trash icon next to Restore Point.

Note: Every WordPress installation can only have one restore point, and creating a restore point overwrites the existing restore point (if any).

A restore point is not the same as a backup, and making changes to the target installation after you copy or update data may make restoring from the restore point impossible. If you’re copying data or updating a live production WordPress installation, we recommend that you back it up before creating a restore point.
