Getting Started
To get you started with HostPapa web hosting services and to make your experience here the best that it can be, please read over the following information carefully. Your welcome email contains all the necessary information to get you started using your web hosting services, email setup and how to get your domain to point to the HostPapa servers.
To help you get set up and make the most of your web hosting account, HostPapa offers easy-to-use instructional videos that use a step-by-step approach.

Account Information
Information on the package you purchased, your domain name and IP address are located in your welcome email.
Please keep in mind that your website will not appear right away if you type your domain name into a web browser. It will take 24-72 hours to propagate the domain throughout the Internet servers so your domain will not be accessible by typing the domain name into a web browser.
Login Information
Your login information appears in your welcome email.
HostPapa uses the web hosting industry's #1 control panel (cPanel), allowing you to easily manage your domain name and all of the services associated with that domain.
When you access your domain, you will see that the web package you have purchased comes bundled with numerous services and applications. Please familiarize yourself with what each of these icons means. Please note: When you login to your control panel for the first time, you can view your file structure using File Manager. It is very important that you do NOT delete any folders and files in this file manager as this could cause your site to malfunction.
Your domain will take 24-72 hours to propagate in the Internet servers. HostPapa has no control over this process; it just takes time for the servers to be set up on the main Internet servers. You can access your control panel temporarily while this is happening by using the following URL:
http://yourIPaddress/cpanel
After your domain has been registered on the main Internet servers, you can access your control panel and manage your account by using your domain name and the username/password provided in your welcome email; ie. http://www.yourdomainname.com
Transferring Your Domain Name
Our knowledgebase provides valuable information on
transferring your domain as well as information on
domains about to expire.
FTP Information
To access your web hosting space, you will need to know how to use File Transfer Protocal (FTP) software. There are numerous websites and information resources on the various software to use, or you can upload your files using built-in FTP software from web design software such as Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage. Our instructional videos located at http://www.hostpapasupport.com/tutorials/Tutorials_FTP.shtml show how to use the more popular FTP programs, such as SmartFTP and CuteFTP.
To connect to the server, please use either your domain name or the IP Address associated with your account in order to FTP your files.
FTP login information is provided in your welcome email.
You should upload your files to the main directory, which is either the /www directory or /public_html directory. Either directory will suffice.
Please note that some FTP programs will not require the final slash ("/") in the FTP directory setting.
Please keep in mind that it will take 24-72 hours for your domain to propagate to the main Internet servers, so the above mentioned FTP address may not be functional right away. Prior to propagation, simply use your IP address as the FTP host name.
Email Setup
With HostPapa web services you can set up unlimited email accounts. You can easily set up email addresses and passwords by logging in to your control panel and accessing the "Mail" icon. Once here, you will be asked for the email address you would like to set up with your domain name, as well as to choose a password. For example, you could choose "webmaster@yourdomain.com" and a password you can remember.
This is the information you will need to use when setting up your email accounts on personal computers. We strongly recommend that you watch our instructional "Email Tutorial" videos located at http://www.hostpapasupport.com/tutorials/Tutorials_eMail.shtml, as they will provide you in-depth information about how to set up email on your local computers.
Information required to set up email accounts includes the following:
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com
Some additional notes on email set up:
Our SMTP Outgoing email server does not require server authentication for your outgoing email. Some users who are using ADSL High Speed Access may need to use the SMTP outgoing server from their Internet Service Provider (ISP), as their service is set up to use their servers for all outbound emails. Please consult with your ISP if you are still having issues with outgoing email after following these detailed instructions.
Webmail
To access your email accounts while you are on the road and not using the PC at which your email accounts are set up (such as in Microsoft Outlook), you can also access your email through HostPapa's Webmail services.
Webmail access: www.yourdomain.com/webmail
Simply use the same email address and password combination that you set up in your control panel.
Domain Name Server (DNS) Information
This information is important to the setup of your domain. If you registered your domain through HostPapa, your Domain Name Server (DNS) information is provided in your welcome email.
If you are transferring a domain, you will need to change your name servers at your domain registrar (where you registered your domain) and change the name servers associated with your account to the HostPapa name servers listed above. You can see detailed instructions on how to do this with our easy-to-use step-by-step videos, located at http://www.hostpapasupport.com/tutorials/Tutorials_DomainSetup.shtml. Simply refer to the "Setup your Domain Name Server" videos and find your registrar in these videos to learn how to make the necessary changes.
Please keep in mind that it will take 24-72 hours after you have changed your domain name servers at your registrar to point to your domain and for you to be able to access your domain through your actual web address.
In the meantime, before your site becomes active, you can view your site by using the IP address provided in your welcome email.
Your Domain Name Information - IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Your domain name is perhaps the most important aspect to your web site; as such, you should take care to understand your rights and obligations for your domain. Please be sure to read the following information and if you have any questions please be sure to reference our knowledgebase regarding domain names.
As a client of HostPapa, you are offered one free domain name with your hosting account. This offer extends to new and existing domain names. New domains are registered and managed for clients and are automatically renewed free each year, so long as the client is hosted with HostPapa.
A free domain also applies to a currently existing domain name. For us to renew an existing domain name for free that domain name must be transferred to us. To view our domain transfer instructions, please check our knowledgebase at the above URL and type "transferring" in the search field.
You may also opt to not transfer an existing domain name and to only point that domain name to our Domain Name Servers (DNS). In this case, however, we will not be able to offer you the free domain registration offer as we cannot renew a domain name at a registrar outside of our own. Our articles in the Knowledgebase regarding transferring your domain also tell you how to change your DNS and leave your domain where it is.
***AN IMPORTANT NOTE***
We renew your primary domain name for free each year you are hosted with us; however, we are not the registrar. We work with a well-established and ICANN-accredited third party to register and renew your domain names. Having said that, there are over 90,000,000 domain names registered or renewed each year. Because technology is not 100% infallible, the ultimate responsibility for your domain name is yours. Please be sure to mark down the dates on which your domain names should renew each year and check to make sure that those domains that should be renewed, are renewed. You can view your domain name renewal dates by typing in your domain name at: http://www.whois.net

With your HostPapa account, you can use the acclaimed SohoLaunch web builder software to easily build your website. This software comes with numerous web design templates and simple walk-through instructions to get your web presence up and running fast! If you are new to the Internet and are not familiar with website design software (like Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage), then SohoLaunch may be a good option for you for your first website.

- Log into your account control panel (cPanel) at http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
- Enter your username and password
- Click on the Softaculous icon under “Software/Services” on your control panel page
- Scroll down to “Others” on the left side and click on SohoLaunch
- Read the explanation and follow the installation instructions carefully
- Be sure to enter your email address at the end of the process to receive your login information

Please keep in mind that we make every attempt to provide excellent service levels to our customers when they have questions or requests for service or technical support. The best way to reach our support technicians is by opening a service ticket, which will put your request into priority sequence. In order to offer excellent hosting services at such affordable prices, the service demands and requests by our customers must be at a "reasonable" level. This means that consistently high levels of service requests or urgent demands for service will burden our other clients and is therefore not acceptable. Clients with an unreasonably high demand for service will be eventually be asked to pay a "per hour" rate for our service technicians' time or their account may be terminated.
